Mothering Sunday Assembly
Acorn class have been working very hard this week in preparation for Mothering Sunday. Foundation children wrote reasons why they love their Mums and Year 1 have written acrostic poems. The children have also used a variety of materials to create portraits of their Mums. On top of this the class sang You are my Sunshine and prepared gifts of decorated biscuits and flowers.
Thank you to all of the Mummys who joined us for our special assembly this morning, we hope you enjoyed it!
Our trip to Plymouth Marine Aquarium
The school have been very lucky to have a trip to the aquarium. We saw lots of sea creatures and learned about them. Class 1 also found Marina the mermaid hiding in the tanks. The class had a fantastic day and learnt so much!
We learned about Shrove Tuesday in class this week. The children designed their favourite pancake topping and measured out all of the ingredients to make a tasty batch of pancakes for our afternoon snack!
The children have been using their measuring skills to make potions in our potion laboratory. The class have loved mixing ingredients together, with some surprising results!
We then wrote about our potions, describing what they would do to somebody if they drunk them!
Trip to Tesco
Foundation and Year 1 enjoyed a trip to Tesco in Kingsbridge. We have been learning about castles so we had the opportunity to make soda bread in the bakery. We also learned how people used to store their food a long time ago as they did not have fridges to keep their food in!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed our music sessions this half term. They have been singing songs which complement our 'Magical Me' theme. The children have been learning how to sing together, keep a steady beat and have even begun using instruments to play simple rhythms. The whole class performed to the school and Salcombe Pre-school. Thank you for watching.
A big thank you to all parents who joined me at the phonics workshop this week. It has been lovely hearing how much you took away from the meeting. Have fun reading with your children!
Academic Year 2016-2017
Welcome to all of the parents and children in Class One!
During this half term our Learning Enquiry is ‘Magical Me’ and in the second half of term, leading up to Christmas, we will be learning about ‘Celebrations and Festivals’.
In the first half of term Foundation and Year One will be focussing on themselves and their families. They will explore the human body and investigate our senses in a range of real-life learning opportunities. To support our learning enquiry the children will enjoy a range of role play areas during the course of the term. For this first half of term the role play areas are a doctors’ surgery, construction site and a mud pie kitchen. As well as our overarching Learning Enquiry the children also have the opportunity to explore drawing and painting, where they will be using different techniques to create self-portraits. The children will investigate seasonal changes and discover what changes have occurred within their living memory as well as learning about the United Kingdom.
We have been reading the book Funnybones by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. The children have enjoyed reading and retelling the book. We labelled parts of our bodies, found out how to measure ourselves to find out who is the tallest and shortest person in our class. The children have also been constructing Funnybones skeletons and using junk modelling equipment to create the 'dark, dark town'.
Academic Year 2015 to 2016
Our learning enquiry for this term is 'Over, Under, Inside Out'. We have been learning about what is under, over and inside the sea! Our class joined the whole school for a day at the beach, where we explored the beach and took part in making natural beach sculptures as well as making some fantastic sandcastles and rockpooling.
Since then we have been on a trip to Tesco to learn about the journey fish take from the sea to get onto our plates! We tasted some fish and took a close look at different types of fish.
Please take a look at some of the photos from our days out.
Recently Class 1 went on a trip to Tescos in Kingsbridge and learned about where our food comes from. As we are learning all about exploring our coast, we were especially keen to learn all about the different types of fish that we can eat. We got to try many types of food including kiwi fruit, coconut and tomatoes.
Our trip was made even more exciting as we got to travel on a vintage bus and we also dressed up as pirates for the day!
